surfing madness: the svrf pvnk invitational is here
It’s that time of the year again, when one of the most bizarre events in the international surfing scene takes place, the SVRF PVNK INVITATIONAL, running now on its fifth edition, bringing, as usual, more fun and attitude than technical maneuvers and skill on the board. Happening in Landes, France, this competition will offer all attendants a previous night with tattoos and live music performances by Cannery Terror, Musique d’Apéritif & Friends and Yo No Se. We must thank Afends and Electric for all this madness that will start on Friday, September the 30th, with live music, the skateboarding Mini Ramp Challenge by Collapse and Skullcandy, food, one or two (or three and four) beverages, and a flash tattoo station, to get an ever-lasting souvenir in Kooks Tattoo To Win, where four tattoo artists will be offering their designs. On Saturday, October the 1st, the real action is due to take place. From nine in the morning to six in the afternoon the competition will happen in an undisclosed place in Landes, which will be revealed on Friday night. For it, each rider must come with the best of attitudes and strive to give the best performance possible, embracing insanity. To start, a roulette will decide which board is each rider using and which costume is each rider wearing, with full pride, assuming character. Of course, there won’t be any previous warm-up, instead some beer and a shot will do what they do best, making us feel ready and confident for whatever might come. The winner will be chosen based on style and attitude, and it will be taken into account if they can do a trick related to their costume, for example a handstand in a Spiderman suit will probably get you a perfect score; here creativity must be at the forefront. After the competition there will be a closing party that will last all night long. There, the winner of the PVNK TROPHY will be announced, on top of that there will be more food, more drinks and live music with performances from Travel Check, Faire, Le Mutant and Sharky & Dreamtime, who will close this mad and senseless weekend with their DJ Set; bottom line, a weekend that brings along many elements we truly love, surfing, skateboarding, tattoos and rock. To capture all the action, live from the spot, we will have a special correspondent, the amazing photographer Cecilia Álvarez-Hevia, who will bring back with her some great photographs and a video to convey all the dementia that’s unleashed in this one-of-a-kind competition.
